PROJECT LOCATION
This project is located in Rustenburg

RESOURCE
Impala Platinum Mines (Rustenberg) have accumulated a waste dump of ROM at Shaft no. 11. This is estimated to be 8 million tons. As part of Impala’s commitment to the Royal Baphokeng Tribe and its rehabilitation responsibility, Impala has awarded the ownership and processing responsibility to the Royal Baphokeng Tribe. The dump has an approximate content of 40% Chrome and 60% aggregate

CHROME PROCESSING METHOD
In the initial phase of the project, contract mobile crushers will be hired. These are diesel powered and will be moved to site within two weeks of operation. The crushers will be capable of processing 70 000Mt per month. The operation and maintenance of the crushers will be the responsibility of the contractor. These will 2 25x36 mobile jaw crushers that can deliver up to 200tons per hour.

As the project gains momentum, 2 static crushers will be purchased to save costs. The operation and maintenance will be outsourced.  The crusher will produce an 80mm size lumpy ore.  A Chieftain 2100 triple deck screen will be used to screen the crushed product.  The product will be washed to extract all the sand and silica. This will improve the quality of chrome

PRODUCT
S and J mining has been contracted by the Royal Baphokeng tribe to extract the dump from the Impala Platinum Mine – Shaft 11 and process the ROM to extract Chrome Lumpy, Chrome Concentrate and aggregate.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  1. The contract term is 10 years and obligates S and J Mining to remove a minimum of 70 000 MT per month
  2. The revenue earned from the chrome and aggregate sales will be for the account of S and J mining
  3. S and J mining will pay the Royal Baphokeng Tribe R50 per ton of any ROM extracted from the dump
  4. Development of the site will commence February 2014, first production end February 2014
  5. The processing plant will be built to address quality, health and safety and environmental requirements. These will be setup to be compliant to ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 assessment standards.
